Rail infrastructure

A railway is a sophisticated transport system that stands on its own because of its dedicated network. Railway designs require highly specialised knowledge of operating trains and of infrastructure, track and line construction, overhead power cables, train safety and project management.

In an enterprise called Railinfra Solutions, Witteveen+Bos cooperates with Royal Haskoning and DB International, Germany’s premier rail infrastructure company that operates nationally and internationally. The three companies have bundled their knowledge and expertise in this joint enterprise to offer total rail infrastructure solutions. An exclusive cooperation agreement has been signed with a fourth party, Verebus Engineering, for the dedicated field of train safety. Railinfra Solutions has been fully accredited by ProRail.

A trademark of Railinfra Solutions is its multidisciplinary working method. The enterprise devotes considerable attention to embedding projects in the surroundings, a specialism referred to as stakeholder management. The expertise that Witteveen+Bos and Royal Haskoning possess in the domains of spatial development, urban construction and environmental policy enable Railinfra Solutions to factor the surroundings into every railway project and every recommendation. Complementing this specialisation is DB International’s considerable input of expertise for future investments like the European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS) and 25 kV overhead power supplies.

Railinfra Solutions operates from its head office at Utrecht in the Netherlands. This is a prime location for two reasons. Firstly, Utrecht is easily reachable from all parts of the Netherlands. Secondly, it is almost on the doorstep of ProRail, the company’s most important customer. Other clients of Railinfra Solutions include provincial governments, municipal governments, contractors and major industrial corporations.
